Big truck parked in Tulalip, WA , gotta love the Americans.
But Bellingham, I’m sorry that cars with B.C. license plates are noticeably clogging up your streets, filling up your parking lots and probably causing a lot of frustration but it’s because…
Gas, less than a $1/litre ($1.29 is a bargain here)
My jeans that I pay $75 for, I bought the same ones for $33
CHEESE, 2.5lbs of cheese for under $7, I bought FIVE POUNDS of cheese…FIVE!
Pomegranate juice, my $13 juice is $4.50 over there
Trader Joes, I love you but hate you because you make me so sad that you are not close by and that I cannot bring home cheap booze and produce like bananas, 29c for organic bananas, I pay 89c… did you know that bananas are Walmart’s #1 seller?
Cherry Icees from Target - well Target in general, again you make me sad. I bought Monopoly for $13 for the game that is $19 on sale up here
That is pretty much my $130 haul minus the gas but add in two sweaters, , lots of dried fruit, snacks, more juice and a giant icee, it was so giant that I started to get jittery from all the sugar.

I bought this the other day from a thrift/vintage store. When I went in and asked the man for it (it was in the window display), he apologized profusely for it having some parts of it peeled and the frame being warped in some areas. Crazy talk! I love that about the print, it’s 45 years old and that gives it so much more character. I’m going to enjoying having Paul watch me eat dinner and greet me as I enter the main area of my apartment, well worth the $60.

health it up

Every morning I start off my day with five of these, yes, five. This weekend I started thinking  that that probably isn’t very good for me, I should be fueling up with something better so today marks day one of my transition from five shots of espresso to a bit mug of green tea. While I don’t feel any healthier, I actually feel kind of gross, but at least my mug looks healthier.

Dear Caesar,

Just because I get up from my chair, couch or move in the direction of your food bowl, doesn’t mean I am going to feed you, especially when you have a bowl full of food.

Sigh,
Laura

Crash course in bike riding this weekend but a busy seawall, riding on roads and going over a bridge was conquered. My bum hurts but I think I’m ready to buy a bike now.

it’s like riding a

For the first time in 15 years I’m going bike riding. I’m nervous to see if I’ve completely forgotten how to ride a bike or if after the first 30 or so seconds (I test rode a bike earlier this week for 30 seconds) I’ll start to feel confident again….since I’ll be going on busy bike paths PLEASE let it be the latter.

I am in love with this kitchen, although, I wouldn’t put wallpaper as a back splash especially behind the sink.

YUM, I made this recipe today but with completely different veggies. The stirfry sauce for this recipe is pure saucy goodness especially with the sriracha kick, I could eat it by the spoonful!

Third time lucky?

This weekend I went to donate blood, it was my third time and I was rewarded with a snazzy key chain/zipper pull and uh, fainting!

I had never fainted before but I imagine each time it happens it is just as scary of an experience as the first time. Here’s what happened, filled out my forms, had my arms inspected for drug use, got my temperature taken along with my blood pressure and hemoglobin levels, all was fine. Get into the chair and I felt okay but then I get to the table to enjoy my mango juice and oatmeal cookies and my breaths become really shallow, my vision starts to fade, I rest my head on the table and tell the aid how I am feeling. All I can remember is a nurse asking me if I could walk to the stretcher and I said “oh yeah, no problem” and then I open my eyes, I have ice packs on my wrists and the back of my head and a nurse is asking me if I’m okay and telling me that I fainted. Turns out, not only did I faint but I also puked - oh geez, SO EMBARRASSING! When I found out that I puked that’s when I started to tear up.

It’s a bit of a mystery as to why it happened. I ate a hearty and balanced breakfast so I wasn’t hungry, my hemoglobin level was normal but the super nice nurse told me that it could have been low blood sugar levels and suggested next time I eat something sweet right before blood donation. And, there will be a next time, not going to let a little fainting scare me.
