health it up
Every morning I start off my day with five of these, yes, five. This weekend I started thinking  that that probably isn’t very good for me, I should be fueling up with something better so today marks day one of my transition from five shots of espresso to a bit mug of green tea. While I don’t feel any healthier, I actually feel kind of gross, but at least my mug looks healthier.

it's like riding a
For the first time in 15 years I’m going bike riding. I’m nervous to see if I’ve completely forgotten how to ride a bike or if after the first 30 or so seconds (I test rode a bike earlier this week for 30 seconds) I’ll start to feel confident again….since I’ll be going on busy bike paths PLEASE let it be the latter.

YUM, I made this recipe today but with completely different veggies. The stirfry sauce for this recipe is pure saucy goodness especially with the sriracha kick, I could eat it by the spoonful!

Third time lucky?
This weekend I went to donate blood, it was my third time and I was rewarded with a snazzy key chain/zipper pull and uh, fainting!  I had never fainted before but I imagine each time it happens it is just as scary of an experience as the first time. Here’s what happened, filled out my forms, had my arms inspected for drug use, got my temperature taken along with my blood pressure and...

soup-er sunday
The other day I went out for dinner and ordered what turned out to be some amazing soup - Harira Soup.  I’ve been thinking about this soup for days now and after some research I built up the kitchen confidence and tackled it. Uh, yummmm!  Here is the harira soup recipe. Changes I made…no meat. Added a couple of tablespoons of tomato paste and celery. Tripled the amount of cayenne...

the weather network = cheaters
I know you cannot accurately predict the weather but take a look at the 14 day forecast for Vancouver. Looks normal for February, rain, chilliness, some sun but lots of cloud. Now, take a look closer at the weather for February 8th. Can’t see it? Here is a close up. Rain + Snow + Cloud + Sun all in one day? No way, I feel like the weather channel meteorologists don’t really...

Like a kajillion other people I promised myself to eat better which oddly enough has resulted in eating more but the affects from that have been my “fat jeans” becoming loose once again, yay!  Tonight while studying for my first quiz of the semester I whipped up this dish: Cauliflower + onion + sweet potato + tofu + a schwack of spices = some type of carmelized dry roasted curry...

furniture dilemma - help?
I’ve been in my apartment for 6 months. I’ve also been without a table for 6 months which means when I’ve had the odd person over for dinner they’ve got to eat on my couch and on their lap because I’ve also been without a proper coffee table. How ghetto! After 6 months of casually searching I found a table and chairs; however, dilemma. Here is the table: Simple;...

Oh Netflix, home of so many “huh, I’ve never heard of this before” movies. Last night my friend and I attempted to watch four movies, we only watched one of them in full; however, we got the gyst of the other three by fastforwarding.  Black Sheep I love horror, especially cheesy horror. From what I gathered through fastforwarding and then watching the cheesy gory parts is...

It's in you to give....
For the first time I donated blood. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time but the queasy feeling I get from needles and the sight of real blood (yes, as opposed to fake blood) made the excuses not to easy. Last night I phoned, made an appointment and today I did it. Here’s what happened. After signing in I had my hemoglobin tested to see if I qualifed to the next step....

One of my favourite places to eat is Gyoza King on Robson, it’s a Japanese restaurant that doesn’t serve sushi which is perfect for someone (me) who enjoys Japanese food but not sushi. I went here a week or so ago with some pals and this fella behind the bar kept us hydrated and partially fed and I think we kept him laughing, I can only imagine what he though of us and the...

Eatin’ the Shore pt. 2
Harmony Donuts - 29th & Lonsdale (in North Vancouver) How cute are these? Actually, if you think these are cute you should check out the shop, it’s full full full of vintage toys and figurines. The owner of the shop is super chatty and very friendly.  I didn’t get these for myself, I picked them up to take to a friend’s BUT I did taste a maple donut and it was 10x better...

Eatin' the Shore
Since the dentist said I was allowed to have solids again I’ve had some good eats particularly on “the Shore” (North Vancouver) #1 Palki’s … actually Palki Best Indian Cuisine (E.15th & Lonsdale, North Vancouver) Ever since I moved to North Van I’ve been told that I have to go eat at Palki’s. Last Saturday I finally went and grabbed some take out. ...

Inception Review
Woah.  What a solid movie. Visually it was complete candy, the cinematography was stunning with each scene beautifully framed and shot. The story, while unique, wasn’t completely out there with the themes of grief, obsession and memory being explored. I will however say that it took about 45 minutes into the movie for me to finally get a solid grasp on what was going on and I do feel that...

Food Review
Cuisine: Vietnamese Where: Pho Japolo (North Vancouver) This was the third time I’ve had Vietnamese and the first time where I absolutely LOVED it; either I had a case of the munchies (not really) or it really was THAT good. This place was really busy (fyi: there are only two Vietnamese restaurants in North Vancouver) and the interior of the restaurant looks as if it once was a Deutsche...
