Eatin’ the Shore

Since the dentist said I was allowed to have solids again I’ve had some good eats particularly on “the Shore” (North Vancouver)

#1 Palki’s … actually Palki Best Indian Cuisine (E.15th & Lonsdale, North Vancouver)

Ever since I moved to North Van I’ve been told that I have to go eat at Palki’s. Last Saturday I finally went and grabbed some take out.

I’m not a HUGE butter chicken fan but it was strongly recommended and it was flavourful, nicely spiced and not overly heavy; overall it was good stuff.

The Chana Masala on the other hand came with this massive oil slick on top of it, the chickpeas were very hard and the dish had a really gritty taste to it, I wouldn’t order this again.

I have to give Palki’s this, the naan bread was easily the best I have ever had.

Rating:  3.75 / 5 - points lost for crap Chana Masala

#2 Raglans (Lonsdale & Esplanade, North Vancouver)

I wish I took picture of the interior of this place because it looks like a combination surf shack/tiki bar.

Top left, brushetta, this was great for two reasons 1) they used goat cheese, that’s great for me because dairy makes me feel as if my stomach is eating itself and 2) the tomatoes used were stewed/canned/something that isn’t raw or fresh.

Top right, yam chips. Not much to say about this dish, deep fried yams thinly cut like a chip but not overly crispy. Yum.

Bottom left, jerks & hotties wings. I’m not a big wing fan and thought these were just okay. There are three types on the plate a jerk flavour, some hot one and then a sweet wing.

Bottom right, falafel. YUM. Falafel here is delicious and I found out that they make their own mix and cook the falafel fresh, bonus points!

This photo doesn’t do the boys justice, it was supposed to be “candid” but these two totally posed plus my food setting on the camera isn’t the best for non-food. BUT, look at Dave’s (right) awesome shirt!

I really enjoyed Raglans, tasty eats, nice selection of drinks, great tunes and some fun and amazing company - thank you Dave and Dan for the inviting me along, I had a really fun time!

Rating: 4.25/5, points lost for the wings and not having all the appetizers available

#3 Post-Wisdom tooth Eats - Chez Mum + Dad & Chez Laura

While recovering from having my wisdom teeth yanked out I enjoyed medium-good eats.

Left: Day 1, drugs on the table, pineapple juice in the cup and a blood/drool stain on the pillow. This was day one, at least the cat kept me company!

Centre: Day 2, two containers of ice cream cake + giant box of popsicles + small box of popsicles+ container of gelato.

Right: Looks gross, I know. But maaaaan, baked potato with cheddar and blue cheese is amazing stuff.

Not pictured: Yogurt, meal replacement drinks (which aren’t too bad now), jello, pudding

Rating: 4/5, a lot of dairy was consumed which meant I had to take pills every time.
