I really like LOVE falafel. I think it’s amazing and could eat it all the time. What stops me is that falafel, like a lot of yummy things, is deep fried. I’ve tried to justify it by saying “it’s so dense not much oil gets absorbed” or “hey it’s mushed up chickpeas what’s a little deep frying?” But who am I kidding, that sucker is deep fried.
What you see above are two attempts at making falafel. On your right is a “just add water” mix and I pan fried it. On the left, it’s the latest attempt. I researched “baked falafel recipes” and found one with great reviews from more than one person. I don’t know what I did wrong but I got stuff that looked like yellow/green hummus but more liquidy, I didn’t even get to save it because it tasted awful too probably because I used sweet onion instead of regular onion. It just looks gross. The “just add water” mix batch, at least I salavaged some of it by crumbling it up and throwing it on a salad.
The quest for a healthy/healthier falafel continues…
