so bad it’s uhhh bad, disgusting or potentially good?

Oh Netflix, home of so many “huh, I’ve never heard of this before” movies.

Last night my friend and I attempted to watch four movies, we only watched one of them in full; however, we got the gyst of the other three by fastforwarding.

Black Sheep

I love horror, especially cheesy horror. From what I gathered through fastforwarding and then watching the cheesy gory parts is  that this movie is about these crazy were-sheep in the New Zealand countryside who turn on people and kill them. The production value of this movie is horrible but that’s what makes it awesome, if I were to rate it I’d give it 7/10 but mainly for the awesome tagline from the movie “Get the Flock out of Here” LOVE!

Next up we watched, in fastfoward, The Human Centipede.

(I couldn’t use a scene from the movie, too gross)

Each time I go to my friend’s place for movie night he brings up the movie The Human Centipede (Dan, you totally do). Finally, even though we both knew it was sadistic and disgusting we watched it in fastforward and stopped in the “ohmygod, is he really doing that, ugggh seriously?!” bits.

Here is the story, the title gives it away so this isn’t really a spoiler. Two girls from New York decide to go on a roadtrip through Europe. They’re in Germany and want to go to some club called Bunker (nice). They phone the concierge in their hotel and ask for directions and away they go. The two gals get lost in the German forest and of course have no cell phone reception. They leave the car and start walking around and find a house, they knock on the door and this creepy man opens the door. The creepy man drugs them and then lives out his fantasy by creating a human centipede. It’s seriously disgusting and not cheesy disgusting but Silence of the Lambs disgusting. So disturbing. Ew.

Next up…Short Cuts

I LOOOOOOOOVE Raymond Carver, and his book of short stories, Short Cuts so I just HAD to watch this.

This movie was slow. And, three hours. It wasn’t the right night to watch this. I will one day because Raymond Carver is my absolute favourite writer and from the one hour we did watch it was really great to see  his stories played out, I felt like Robert Altman captured the mood perfectly along with the tension, sadness and fatigued tones.

Finally, the movie we watched in whole, probably because it was getting late, Gummo.

We thought this movie would be similar to the movie Kids. Instead, it was like watching a documentary on Jerry Springer guests. The movie is based on the youth of this small down in Ohio that suffered a horrible tornado back in the 70s but has never fully recovered. The storyline seems more based on the town itself rather than the characters as the movie is done almost in episodes. Through all the glue sniffing, cat killing and fighting there are some really sad scenes where you have to shake your head because you know somewhere out there there is a small town like that and there are some people who are similar to the characters.
